Grrrr......

We have been testing the new content filter (ie the everything is blocked problem). Everytime we hit a blocked site we wanted to use we sent an email to the computer techs. Turns out now they did not get ANY of them!!! None of the emails we have sent in the last month and a half. None. Nada. Rien. Niets. Keine.

More posts coming when I calm down. Why? Because there is more.

Hi Gary,

We have been having problems with our email as well. Have you gotten any "message delayed" messages from the email server?

Yes we have been having the same problems. It led to me outsmarting myself. I use Gmail to co-ordinate my home and work emails. So when my lsky acount tried to forward an email to my Gmail it had a problem. So it sent me a "message delayed" message. My Lsky account would then try to forward the "message delayed" message. And it led to another error message, which it also tried to forward! Get the picture?

Our content filter and bocked websites problem is completely separate from the "message delayed" issue. That problem was not with our personal emails. It was an automated part of the blocking system.

I get my students to email me assignments. Last week when I emailed them back their test marks none of them got them..."message delayed". I cannot use the public directory to have them gove me assignments...What to do? Connundrum #485.7.

pcone the delayed errors should be dealt with shortly. I emailed the tech powers that be and they emailed me back saying "This problem should now go away."

On another note I gave up on waiting for student emails so I have my students set up on Gmail. I also use a Gmail account for all of my emails as well. I no longer have to rely on the division techs to keep in touch. So far it has been working well for me.

Yes, the same thing happened to me. I don't know, I think that gmail is the way to go. It gives students access to great tools like Google docs and notebook, and they never have to worry about waiting for their student email.

Jennifer, as I am finding out that while Gmail is good, it is not perfect. My students found the built in chat function. MSN in my class, and they aren't really backchanneling about my class either.
